A glimpse of the Juan Diego Route in Southern Indiana and Louisville

Journey with the National Eucharistic Pilgrimage
We began our pilgrimage at 9:30 am in Jeffersonville Indiana and would end approximately 15 miles later at St Mary of the Knobs in Floyds Knobs.
As I walked right behind the Eucharist looking into the face of Our Lord, my mind wondered about the days of old when the Israelites were being led out of Egypt. God led them out of the place of slavery into freedom and he wants to do the same for us today.
We are not enslaved in a place as they were but each of us has his or her own Egypt or place of slavery that is holding us back from the glory God desires for our lives. Just as God led them by cloud during the day, we started out with a cloudy sky shielding us from the burning heat of the sun and accompanied by a gentle breeze.
Further into our journey we encounter turbulent waters as they flowed over the falls and later by the dam. We however, following Our Lord walked in safety above the water on the floodplain. All of us experience certain types of turbulent waters in our lives such as losing our job, or struggling in relationships perhaps with a spouse, children or siblings and so many others challenges. And these life circumstances are opportunities for us to recognize our need to rely on God for His guidance and His protection from falling into the waters and allowing panic and fear to control our lives.
As I marveled at the lessons being brought to my mind, I placed them juxtaposed and saw
God leading the Israelites with a cloud and Jesus providing clouds for us:
God leading the Israelites out of Egypt and Jesus leading us on our pilgrimage:
God opening the sea for the Israelites to pass through and Jesus leading us over the waters:
Finally, as I was taking all the similarities into mind, suddenly on my right I notice an 18-wheeler truck that was stopped so our procession could pass and the name on the truck was “Covenant Trucking” it even had a picture of a scroll like the old covenant might have been written on after being transcribed from stone but this covenant was scrolled across America.
Just as God gave the Covenant with the Israelites at mount Sinai perhaps Jesus is preparing us for a renewed covenant. And just as this scroll was across America so is Jesus making His way from the four corners of America to Indianapolis.
I wonder what Blessings God has in store for this Nation Eucharistic Revival.
May God bless you on your journey in life,
Br. Don Bassana OFM Conv.
